Livingston

Sophia Livingston ’26, a psychology major on sky casino genting’s women’s track and field team, broke the school record in the women’s 800-meter event Friday at the Chico Invitational.

Livingston sprinted for a time of 2:18.02 in the 800-meter, surpassing the previous school record of 2:19.47 set in 2017 by Emily Wylie. It was Livingston’s sixth consecutive personal record time in the event as she was coming off a 2:19.61 last weekend at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco.

“It felt incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work I’ve put in this season pay off,” Livingston said. “I’m deeply grateful for all of the support that helped me get to reaching this point.”

Over six meets this season, Livingston’s time has gone from 2:27.94 in the Cal All Comers on Feb. 22 to 2:18.02 less than two months later. Pacific Head Coach Josh Jones has seen the steady progress in Livingston and was thrilled to see her record not just a personal best, but the school record.

“I’m very proud of Sophia,” Jones said. “She is a dedicated athlete, and she has reached another level these last couple of weeks. The best part is that she has more in her. It could not have happened to a better person.”

With her record-setting run on Friday, Livingston became the third member of the 2025 team to set a school record this season, joining Talia Johnson ’25 and Serena Yee ’26. All three are California natives as Johnson is from Atascadero and Yee is a local from Lodi.

Johnson, who is studying toward a doctorate in physical therapy, clocked a record-tying time of 8.35 at the Cal All Comers meet. Yee, a health and exercise science major, tied the record in the high jump with a distance of 1.50 meters at the 2025 Sunshine Open and broke the school record in the triple jump with a distance of 10.51 meters at the 2025 Cal Opener.

Livingston and the Tigers look to continue their record-setting campaign as the team begins preparation for the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific from Wednesday, April 16 to Friday, April 18. .
